A trusted partner for your business needs
Actico originally got in touch with ITGix back as they were exploring the option to supplement their existing on-premises setup with a potential move to AWS for parts of their infrastructure tailored towards their SaaS product offerings.
Actico was seeking an experienced AWS cloud managed service provider to support them with the day-to-day operation of their AWS estate and further enhance their microservices architecture by migrating to Kubernetes and by implementing end-to-end DevOps practices.
Additional requirements
Initially developed as a pilot migration in 2019, the environment utilized Docker containers running on top of EC2 instances, with Amazon RDS as the data layer.
It was evident that what began as a rehost-focused migration from on-prem had to evolve and transition to a more cloud-native approach to improve scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency.
In addition, there was a need to further enhance the compliance and observability in order to achieve ISO and SOC2 certifications.
The ITGix Solution – Secure, Automated, Kubernetes-Ready AWS Platform
To address customer needs, ITGix, in close collaboration with Actico’s Cloud Architects, undertook a project to progressively refactor and replatform their AWS infrastructure. As part of this transformation, key AWS security services were implemented to strengthen the security posture and align with industry regulations. Amazon GuardDuty was enabled to detect and respond to threats, while AWS Security Hub provided a centralized, organization-wide view of security findings. The AWS Foundational Security Best Practices and CIS AWS Foundations Benchmark were adopted as governance standards. All critical and high-severity findings were diligently addressed by the ITGix engineering team, and custom AWS Config rules were created to ensure encryption at rest for Amazon ECR.
To enhance scalability and operational efficiency while maintaining cost-effectiveness, ITGix initiated a replatforming effort in 2024, migrating from Docker on EC2 to Amazon EKS and adopting Aurora Serverless where appropriate. This transition reduced infrastructure management overhead, improved resource utilization, and introduced modern DevOps practices through GitOps with ArgoCD. Given that the applications were serving live traffic, the team executed a phased migration strategy designed to ensure zero downtime, carefully addressing workload compatibility and data layer consistency. The result was a robust, cloud-native foundation built for agility and scale.
Outcome
By the end of 2023, the organization achieved SOC 2 compliance while continuing to maintain its long-standing ISO 27001 certification – reinforcing its commitment to security and regulatory excellence. The replatforming effort also delivered a ~33% reduction in provisioning time for new client infrastructure and clusters, contributing to faster customer onboarding and a measurable decrease in operational overhead.
