The Challenge
The client, a company in the iGaming industry, was running multiple databases on a single machine. While keeping the databases together provided a centralized setup, the shared environment meant that the databases were also sharing the same underlying resources.
As the database environment grew and requirements evolved, this setup became less flexible. Individual databases could not be managed as independently as they could in a separated environment, and resources had to be shared across the databases.
The client therefore needed to restructure the existing database environment to provide better resource isolation and create a more flexible foundation for managing individual databases.
The goal was to separate the databases in a way that would improve performance while making future scaling and maintenance easier.

The Solution
ITGix redesigned the existing PostgreSQL database setup by separating the clients’s databases that had previously been hosted on a single machine.
The databases were moved onto three dedicated machines, with one machine assigned to each table/database.
This change created clear resource boundaries between the individual databases. Each database could now operate within its own dedicated environment rather than sharing resources with the other databases on the same machine.
The new structure also made the databases easier to manage independently. Instead of treating the databases as a single consolidated environment, each one could be considered separately when performing maintenance or addressing future resource and scaling requirements.
The separation provided a more organized PostgreSQL infrastructure while maintaining the databases as distinct environments with dedicated resources.
The Results
The database separation improved the overall structure and flexibility of the client’s PostgreSQL environment.
Key benefits included:
- Better resource isolation by assigning each database its own dedicated machine
- Improved performance by reducing competition for shared resources
- Easier individual scaling as database requirements change
- Simplified maintenance by allowing each database to be managed independently
- Greater infrastructure flexibility through a more distributed database setup
- A more sustainable database foundation for the client’s evolving requirements
The dedicated-machine approach also gives the client greater flexibility when dealing with individual databases. Instead of changes to one database potentially being tied to a shared environment, each database can be considered independently for future maintenance and scaling.
This makes the overall database environment easier to manage and provides a clearer structure as infrastructure requirements evolve.
Conclusion
By separating the client’s databases from a single shared machine onto three dedicated machines, ITGix helped the iGaming company move toward a more flexible and efficient PostgreSQL environment.
The new setup provides improved resource isolation and performance while making individual databases easier to maintain and scale. Rather than relying on a consolidated machine for multiple databases, the client now has a more clearly separated infrastructure model that can be managed according to the needs of each individual database.
The result is a cleaner and more adaptable database environment, providing a stronger foundation for the client’s ongoing infrastructure operations and future growth.
